SLOW FLOW
When: Saturdays, 10am-11am
Slow Flow classes include a variety of moderate to strong yoga sequences. These including seated, standing, balancing and inversion postures and focus on creating both flexibility and strength within the body and mind.
Modifications are offered to students to either ease or strengthen their practice. There is a strong focus on pranayama (breathing techniques) and mindfulness. Exercises for both are included at the start of class to nourish and calm the nervous system and prepare the body for the asana (posture) practice.
A relaxation and meditation is included at the end of class designed to bring the body into a calm and peaceful state. This allows time to absorb and integrate the benefits of the practice. This rest also aims to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) to counter effects of stress in the body and mind.
Though this is a relatively slow-paced class we will hold postures for one to two minutes at a time which makes this a reasonably challenging practice. Some knowledge of the basics of yoga asana is beneficial but not essential.
